0.1.0

First release

Prepared for the Chrome Web Store. The listing appears on the homepage once it is published.

What it does

  • Only when you ask. Opening the popup only reads the product page you are on. A check starts when you press “Check 9 other Amazons”.
  • Ten stores. United States, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan and Australia.
  • The same product. Each store is looked up by the product’s ASIN, Amazon’s product number. When a store does not list it, the extension searches for the brand and model number when the title has one, then for the title, brand and selected variant.
  • Careful matching. A listing found by searching carries a confidence score and, where the listings name them, is checked against your colour, pack and size. Weak matches are left out. Open the listing and check it is the same product before you buy.
  • Background tabs. Stores are read one at a time, in background tabs that never take focus. Each tab closes as soon as it has been read. A check takes about 3 seconds per store. The pages it opens are ordinary visits: they appear in Chrome’s history and, if you are signed in to Amazon, may appear in your Amazon browsing and search history.
  • One destination. So that every price is quoted for the same place, the extension may set each other store’s delivery location to the country in the “Deliver to” box of the page you started from, and leaves it that way. The store you started from is never changed. You can change it back in that store’s “Deliver to” box.
  • Delivered total. Stores are ranked by item price plus shipping and import fees, as shown on Amazon’s own pages. When a store shows no import fees for your destination, the result says so, because duties may still be due on delivery.
  • Exchange rates. Totals are converted to one currency at the European Central Bank’s daily reference rates, with Frankfurter as a fallback.
  • Kept locally. Your settings and results stay only in your browser. A stored result holds the product details, including the “Deliver to” text and the page address, and each store’s prices. A finished check is reused for 30 minutes. An older result is deleted only when exactly the same check runs again; otherwise it stays until you remove the extension or clear its storage.
  • Settings. Choose the currency prices are shown in, and switch any store off.

What it never does

  • No checkout. It never adds to cart, checks out or buys anything.
  • No credentials. It never reads your passwords or your cookies.
  • No changes to your addresses. A store’s delivery location is set to a country, never to an address. Your saved addresses stay as they are.
  • No price tracking. It compares prices only when you press the button and never watches them over time.
  • You buy on Amazon. Purchases always happen on Amazon’s own product pages. “Open on …” takes you to the listing, and you decide.
  • No account or server. It has no account, no analytics and no server of its own.

The privacy policy sets out what the extension reads, stores and sends.
